A Biogrpahy of James Joyce

James Joyce was born in Dublin on 2 February 1882, the oldest of ten surviving children; two of his siblings died of typhoid. Joyce was initially educated by the Jesuit order at Clongowes Wood College, Co.Kildare, however he was forced to leave as his father could no longer afford the fees. He then studied at home and at the Christian Brothers on North Richmond St., eventually he was offered a place at another Jesuit school, Belvedere College in the hope that he would have a vocation and join the Order. In 1898 he began studying English, French and Italian at University College Dublin. At this time he became active in theatrical and literary circles in the city, indeed his first published work was a review of Ibsen’s When We Dead Awaken in 1900, for which he received a letter of thanks from the Norwegian dramatist himself. He graduated from UCD in 1903 and left for Paris to study medicine, however he returned to Ireland within a matter of months when his mother was diagnosed with cancer. After her death, family life fell apart with little money and no stability, Joyce began drinking heavily, he scraped a living writing reviews and teaching. He left Dublin again for the Continent in 1904 with Nora Barnacle, staying in Zurich, Switzerland, Pola, Austria-Hungary (present day Croatia) and Trieste, Austria-Hungary (present-day Italy). His son Giorgio was born in 1905 and his daughter Lucia in 1907. He returned to Dublin in 1909 with a view to getting his Dubliners published and to set up a cinema. He returned again in 1912 again attempting to get Dubliners published, however it again proved fruitless, he left Ireland disgusted, he would never return again. In 1915, Joyce moved to Zurich, fleeing Austria-Hungary because of World War One; in Zurich he met Frank Budgen and Ezra Pound who influenced the writer. Pound introduced Joyce to Harriet Shaw Weaver who would become his patron relieving him of the necessity of teaching. He moved to Paris in 1920 and would stay there for the following twenty years. He returned to Zurich in 1940, following the Nazi occupation of France. He died in 1941 and is buried in Fluntern Cemetery, Zurich.

Preventive measures to avoid drain blockage

Drain repair should not be undertaken only as a corrective measure. In fact, it is one of the preventive measures to be taken in order to prevent drains from clogging. Regular inspection and repair of drains also prevents the drainage system from breaking down. There are many precautions you can take to prevent the drains in your kitchen and bathroom from clogging. This includes making sure that no solid waste is disposed of in these drains. You can also use a drain pump or liquids and powders meant to unclog drains from time to time. These will clear small blockages and save you the expense and trouble of having to take the help of professional plumbers frequently. However, in spite of care, sometimes drains do get clogged or damaged due to wear and tear. In this situation you will have to seek professional help. A quick search on the internet will bring forth many professional plumbing service providers. Professional plumbing services, such as Toronto, plumbing services, use highly advanced technology for repairing the drains. They use methods like inserting miniature cameras into the drains to locate the exact spot of blockage or damage. They then use high speed water jets which can unblock drains irrespective of the stubbornness of the blockages. They also have the technology to repair and replace long pieces of drain pipes without disturbing the surface. Hence if a portion of your drainage system needs repair, it does not mean that you have to spend extra on the restoring of the flooring or landscape. Just like every where else, plumbing companies in Toronto also provide both regular and emergency services. All plumbing companies have user-friendly web sites which describe their plumbing maintenance and repair services and charges in detail. These web sites allow you to call for a professional plumber in your area online. For emergencies they have an emergency phone number mentioned. Calling on this number will ensure a professional plumber’s visit to your home in less than 24 hours. However, taking simple measures and preventions to keep drains clear regularly can save you from the hassle brought about by clogged drains.

Leak Detection At The Earliest Sign

No doubt you’ve seen in the movies where a house develops a gas leak and then bursts into flames. While you may thing that this is just a special effect, the reality is that it can actually happen in real life if you leave a gas leak unattended. The problem with natural gas leaks, is that the gas is odorless and colorless. You’ll never know unless you hear the hissing sound coming from the gas line, and chances are you might be a little too late if you’re that close. Fortunately gas companies have foreseen this and have added an odor to the gas. It will begin to smell like rotten eggs if you develop a leak, so you really will not need to worry about that. You can also install a natural gas detector which is a lot like a smoke detector, and will probably be just as handy in an emergency. But what exactly do you do if you notice a natural gas leak?It is very important that you detect the signs of a natural gas leak as early as possible because if you allow it to go on it could cause some serious problems later on. Always make sure that you take the preliminary steps to avoid a disaster, and you can have your gas lines checked every once in a while to make sure that they are not failing or ruptured in any way. There is a chance though that something will happen, so in the event that it does happen you need to be ready to take action to protect yourself and your family. There are a few things that you can do, and there are a few things that you SHOULD do. First and foremost you are going to want to get everyone out of the house. This is very important because the fumes from the gas can be quite toxic, and then there is the chance of it igniting and causing your roof to launch into orbit. The next thing that you should do is call your gas company. They will show up relatively fast because they certainly don’t want your house flying into orbit, after all that would probably be bad for business. They will either tell you that you were hallucinating, or they will tell you that you need to fix the line before they can do anything else. If that is the case, then you will need to contact a licensed plumber to help you fix your broken line. Once that is done then you can call the gas company and they will be more than happy to turn your gas line back on. A gas leak does not have to be fatal or earth shattering in every instance. As long as you take the proper preventative measures and do what you are supposed to do when disaster does strike, you should be absolutely fine. Stop worrying and start preparing!
